New Kabetogama Basin (Ash river, Sullivan's Bay, Namakan, Crane, Sand Point)
our slot has been adjusted slightly. Here is the MN DNR Kabetogama Regulations:
NEW—KABETOGAMA LAKEincluding Sullivan Bay and Ash River to Ash River Falls (St.Louis County) Walleye (regulation modified): all from 18-26" must be immediately released. One over 26" allowed in possession. Sauger/walleye: possession limit six combined, only four may be walleye .
NEW—NAMAKAN LAKE(St. Louis County) Walleye (regulation modified): all from 18-26" must be immediately released. One over 26" allowed in possession. Sauger/walleye: possession limit six combined, only four may be walleye.
Not sure if you were attended any of the special sessions, but listening to Kevin Peterson on the health of our system was incredibly encouraging. Remember, our spawning fish are 18-25" fish, so the goal of protecting those fish ensures spawning females in our system. Now the variables of spawning success often is water temperatures, water levels, spring melt, and regulations in keeping or releasing spawning females.
I would love to hear your thoughts, these are just some of my thoughts. The other benefit to the "new" slot is the 4 walleye limit. Even though we can keep 6 fish (only 4 can be walleye). Our Sauger population is some of the best in the state! Personally I would like to see a "Recreation" and a "Conservation" license option that would let you keep a normal limit or a reduced limit like Canada does. Many of our guest or tourists at local resort don't keep fish...why not support those options or promote that type of guest with reduced fees???

So all 6 of the fish can be Sauger correct
